MARSJAL SOVJETSKOGO SOUYZA The military rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union was established by a decree of the Soviet Cabinet, the Council of People's Commissars (Sovnarkom), on September 22, 1935.
The rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union was in practice the highest military rank of the Soviet Union. (The highest rank in theory, Generalissimo of the Soviet Union, was created for Joseph Stalin and held by him alone). The rank of Marshal of the Soviet Union was created in 1935 and abolished in 1991. (Information from Wikipedia.com).
This very uniform was purchased from the estate and relatives of Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasily Chuikov, who was made Marshal of the Soviet Union in 1955. Chuikov was born in February 12th, 1900 and died on March 18th, 1982. He joined the Red Army during the revolution in 1917 and later attended the Frunze Military academy. During WW2, Chuikov served in the occupation of eastern Poland, in the Winter War against Finland 1940 and thereafter in China as advisor. In 1942, Chuikov was placed in command of the 64th Army at Stalingrad and shortly after, in command of the 62nd Army which was located in Stalingrad itself. After the victory at Stalingrad, the 62nd Army was promoted to the Soviet 8th Guards Army and was made a part of the 1st Belorussian front, advancing into Poland and finally heading for Berlin which was captured in April 1945. After the war, Chuikov stayed in Germany as Commander-in-Chief of the Soviet forces in Germany. He held this position from 1949 to 1953, when he was made Commander of the Kiev military district. In 1955 he was promoted to Marshal of Soviet Union and was from 1960 to 1964 the C-i-C of the Soviet army ground forces and was also chief of the civil defense from 1961 to his retirement in 1972. From 1961 to his death in 1982, he was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. Source: Wikipedia
The set has jacket and cap. While the jacket is M/55, the cap is M/69. Both are in excellent condition;
the jacket has a plentiful of award traces including the holes from Chuikovs "Hero of the Soviet Union" awards. The cloth used for the uniform is of the same type as used in the 1945 "Victory parade" uniforms. The sleeves and collar is fitted with extraordinary generous golden embroidery, much richer than the later marshal uniforms.
The uniform comes with two documents of authenticity, one written by the dealer from which we managed to
aquire the uniform and one from us. It was purchased from the family of Chuikov by a collector in the U.S.A. who recently decided to split his collection. All documents including the document of authenticity from Soviet-Uniforms.com
will be given with the uniform. Due to the value of this set, shipping with insurance is adviced.
