PODPOLKOVNIK "ARTILLERII"   Stunning full parade uniform of a lieutenant-colonel of the Soviet artillery forces, owned by a surviving world war veteran and Hero of the Soviet Union from Ukraine, who passed away in 2007. The uniform was last worn on the Victory day on 9th May in 2006 and was recently sold to us through a dealer in Kiev, Ukraine.

The owner of this uniform participated in the war on the Caucasus front and in the east european theatre of war in the capture of Budapest, earning the medal for Combat service and the Order of the Patriotic War II class. He also participated in the large battle at Kursk in 1943 (the commemorative medal issued by the Kursk veteran association at the 60th anniversary in 2003 is present). For bravery during the war he was given the title Hero of the Soviet Union. A wearers copy of the Order of Lenin and the Hero of Soviet Union star is present on the uniform as the relatives kept the original awards. His career kept on during the postwar years until the late 1950s where he may have continued in a civilian position.

The awards placement on the uniform follow the pre-1974 regulations. It is not very common to have all the hanging awards mounted diagonally, but the traces inside the uniform show that this is the way they have been for a long time; the more recent post-Soviet awards have been attached above the other awards, close to the collar. The uniform is also fitted with an aiguilette, usually worn on parades in Hero cities such as Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev.

The uniform consists of jacket, trousers, visor cap, parade belt and a tie - which was found in one of the pockets. The visor cap is a nice 70s production with cardboard visor.

The uniform is in very good condition, but with wear. The size of the uniform is 50-52, the cap is size 58. In U.S. sizes, this is 40-42 for jacket and 7 3/8 for the visor cap.
