Latvian-Soviet 1970s-1980s parade uniform for a major of the Soviet airfoce. This uniform type was introduced in 1969 as a replacement for the M1958 parade uniforms and were dark blue with golden shoulder boards and sky blue piping.
The shoulder boards are golden with two red stripes and carry one large metal star each for the rank of major. The collar tabs,
which are sky blue felt, carry the winged propeller insignia of the air force. The buttons are two-piece, dated early 1970s.
The uniform holds an typical post-war array of awards whereof 7 origin from the Soviet Union and the final award in the lower row is from Bulgaria. The awards are earned over a lapse of about 20 years, from the early 1960s to the early 1980s and include the medal "For guarding the Soviet state border", the 1965 jubilee award for the 20th anniversary of the Victory, the 1968 and 1978 army jubilee awards, all three classes of the Irreproachable service awards and finally the Bulgarian medal for combat cooperation. The wearers right chest is decorated by the badge "For distinguished border guard" Ist class (brass version!), followed by a 1 rank pilot wing, Red Guards badge and military academy graduation rhombus. On the collar is a city council member badge of the communist party.
The size of the uniform is 50 russian or 40US. The visor cap is a size 56. The uniform comes with matching dark blue, sky blue piped trousers for wear with shoes. The belt is not included, but recommended as a separate and optional purchase. Overall, the uniform is in great condition but shows some wear and dust from time and storage.
