PODPOLKOVNIK SPETSIALNOYE NAZNATJENIE / AIRBORNE
Very fine Soviet/postSoviet mix parade uniform of a VDV (airborne) or possibly Spetsnaz lieutnant colonel. The Spetsnaz (Spetsialnoje Naznatjenie, troops of a special purpose" was the elite units of the Soviet armed forces, to be put in action were brute force in combination with extreme professional warfare was needed. The airborne forces were parachutists in general. The uniform does not give any specific directions since the VDV and airborne Spetsnaz troops used the same insignias.
The uniform which is a model 1969 is fitted with a parade aiguilette and has two patches, one on each arm, both related to the airborne forces of the USSR. We do however believe that these patches were attached in post-Soviet era. The awards on the medals range from 1965 to 1999; the two upper awards are issued by the Republic of Ukraine. The uniform is said to have belonged to a VDV officer of the Ukraine SSR who later turned to the newly found Ukraine armed forces for further assignments; which seems fully plausible. The uniform itself was obtained in Berlin through one of our eminent suppliers.
The uniform is in excellent condition with no holes or damages and with light wear. The size for the tunic and trousers is 52, visor cap is 60.
