The medal for valiant labor was established 27 December 1938 and is also known as the "Medal for Labor Heroism". It was awarded to laborers who have heroically dedicated themselves towards the construction of a socialist society; demonstrated a complete understanding of equipment in order to provide a high level of efficiency; and for those who have made significant contributions in the areas of science, manufacturing, and culture. This medal ranks above the medal for Distinguished Labor. Citizens as well as foreigners were eligible for this award. It is made of silver. Approximately 2,300,000 were issued.
